In partnership with Columbia University Medical School’s Division of Cardiac Surgery, Sarasota Memorial offers the most comprehensive and advanced cardiovascular services in the region. The SMH cardiac team has decades of experience evaluating and treating irregular heartbeat, heart attack, heart failure, valve disorders and other cardiovascular and thoracic disorders. Collectively, they perform nearly 1,000 cardiovascular surgeries and more than 5,000 procedures every year.
A $2.5 million grant built Sarasota Memorial’s first hybrid OR-cardiac catheterization lab, thanks to a challenge grant from Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation. The state-of-the-art procedure room allows cardiologists and cardiac surgeons to perform complex procedures simultaneously, so heart patients who need more than one surgery don’t have to go through multiple procedures and recovery periods.
Grants from the Foundation have funded:
- Catheterization labs
- Electrophysiology rooms
- Ultrasound technology
- Leading edge technology and devices
- Professional development courses and training
