Director of Communications

The Director of Communications is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of Healthcare Foundation’s marketing strategies, communications, and public relations activities, both external and internal. The Director oversees the efforts of the Communications team and coordinates at the strategic and tactical levels with other Healthcare Foundation functional areas. The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience leading a team and balancing creativity and collaboration with efficiency, deadlines, and aspirational objectives while being able to adapt to change and competing priorities. The successful candidate will be highly collaborative, proactive, able to work with minimal supervision, and enjoy creating and implementing new initiatives. This position requires a leader with the ability to guide communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels.

  1. Work with Foundation President and others at the Foundation in the design, development, coordination, and production of strategic marketing and advertising programs, communication materials, fundraising materials, and publications.
  2. Create and execute short and long term marketing plans in support of the Foundation’s strategy and objectives to build awareness and generate support.
  3. Responsible for updating and maintaining donor recognition walls, kiosks and plaques throughout Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System and the Foundation.
  4. Initiate and maintain contact with the media within the community to promote a positive image of the Foundation, keeping donors, the Board, physicians, employees and the public aware of projects, grants, and programs funded by the Foundation.
  5. Work and coordinate with publishing company, Hospital marketing staff, and appropriate vendors or contract support to ensure timely and accurate delivery of Envision magazine.
  6. Work collaboratively with Hospital marketing team on marketing opportunities, joint releases and media events.
  7. Write and produce educational magazine articles, news releases, social media, and updates of Foundation activities, and distribute as appropriate.
  8. Develop annual media campaigns and work with local publications and organizations to place Foundation advertisements.
  9. Coordinate with writers, photographers, graphic designers, printing companies and others as needed to ensure timely printing and delivery of brochures, communication materials, advertisements, and other collateral.
  10. Manage Foundation grateful patient program with Hospital to include direct marketing programs, collateral materials and other programs.
  11. Attend various Foundation and Hospital programs and events, coordinate photographs and/or interviews with attendees and guests as appropriate.
  12. Develop, justify and monitor annual budget for all costs related to advertising, marketing, public relations, publications, and all collateral materials
  13. Manage Foundation annual appeal program to include activities that acquire, retain or renew donations with donor/prospects.
  14. Manage Foundation on-line giving programs, as well as, website content.
  15. Communicate, cooperate, and assist in a clear and courteous manner to all patients, visitors, trustees, coworkers, Sarasota Memorial Hospital physicians, staff and volunteers.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing or related field and minimum of 7 years marketing experience. Healthcare marketing experience preferred.
  • Technical skills in strategic planning, public relations, marketing communications and social media.
  • Ability to think ahead and plan over 1-3 year time span.
  • Ability to organize and management multiple priorities.
  • Must be detail oriented with superior written and oral communication skills, and have knowledge in using computer software such as Microsoft Office.
  • Must have integrity, creativity, intelligence, good energy level and ability to work independently and as a team player.
