STORY

Since 1976, the Healthcare Foundation, through the generosity of many donors, has helped SMH raise the bar for healthcare in our community and the nation. Our areas of focus are patient care, technology, facilities, clinical education, and medical research, but our impact extends far beyond these pillars.

For our community hospital, a healthcare foundation like ours provides the margin of excellence between an average hospital and one like SMH. Over the years, donor support has helped fund a multitude of important initiatives at SMH, including critical equipment for Cardiac Services and the Comprehensive Stroke Center, advanced medical equipment for our tiniest patients in the NICU, staff continuing education, and the completed Phases I and II of the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute.

The Healthcare Foundation has also supported the SMH Physician Residency Program, training our next generation of doctors, and most recently, we helped provide critical resources during the pandemic–including funding for Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), specialized staff for COVID Clinical Research Trials, enhanced testing, and employee assistance for frontline healthcare workers.

The importance of community support cannot be overstated. With over 47 successful years behind us, we are grateful for our generous community which has helped SMH earn multiple accolades for superior patient care and its ranking as one of the best hospitals in the country.
